What we do

The Dynamo Project

The Dynamo Project is an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organisation. Based in Coventry, we offer support for individuals who are experiencing difficulties with addiction, whether it be drugs and/or alcohol misuse. In addition, we also recognise the importance of support for anybody who has a loved one or somebody close to them currently suffering with addiction issues and we try our best to help all those affected by addiction.

No member of staff who works within the project will proclaim to have all the answers. Our approach is not based on telling anybody what to do or how to do something. We are here to support you in your journey. We are totally committed to aiding recovery from addiction.

We believe in you. We believe both in your right and your ability to live life free from substance abuse. We are here to help you make that happen.

Our foundations are laid out within our name, The Dynamo Project, Dynamo stands for…

We are not here to tell you what you want to hear- we can offer you support, guidance and help but that can only go so far. You must choose to put the effort in yourself to have a positive future, free from the shackles of active addiction. Please remember that only you can do this, but you don’t have to do it alone and this is where The Dynamo Project can help you.

There are plenty of organisations around the country that can help individuals get clean, however, this project believes there are gaps within the treatment services to help those maintain an abstinence-based lifestyle and to thrive within society. The Dynamo Project believes that a solid recovery is based on the four following cornerstones.

Health

Exercise plays a huge part in all our staff members daily lives and we actively encourage those who come to us to participate in exercising, you can even join in with us when we train! It does not matter your current capabilities, we will help you right from the start.

Walking, for example, is a fantastic first step into a healthier lifestyle and we will offer support literally every step of the way.

Home

We believe a settled home environment is crucial to maintaining a solid recovery. However, we understand that for differing reasons, this is not always possible for everybody and therefore we have taken the steps to offer people suitable accommodation if needed. We have called this LILAC.

LILAC is an acronym meaning Living In Light And Comfort and is a recovery community house based in Coventry offering residents a safe and secure place to live. There is a lot more information on LILAC within our services section.

As well as LILAC, we aim to offer support or guidance to people who are living with family, friends etc or to anyone who is currently living with somebody dealing with addiction issues. We may not be able to provide all the answers you require, but we will endeavour to point you in the direction of people/organisations that can help.

Community

A big part of what helps recovering addicts is being a part of something, rather than feeling excluded or isolated. Whether this be through the choices that have been made or from a misguided belief that you do not belong, here at The Dynamo Project, we want to help people find their place.

One of our key aims is to create a vibrant recovery community where we are all treated as equals and everyone is listened to. We are well aware that there are many places that can provide support in an individual’s recovery and we aim to work alongside these services.

Building a strong recovery is crucial to a successful recovery and we refer to this as mutual aid, whether that be attendance to 12 step fellowship groups or further education etc as examples. We are here to help and support you in becoming active members of a recovery community.

Purpose

Purpose in life can have such a broad meaning and varies so much from person to person. In active addiction, your only purpose in life may have been to use and having that purpose, however detrimental it was, got you out of bed that day. We really understand the difficulty of when you put the drugs and/or alcohol down, it can feel like your purpose is also removed because that is all you may have known at that time.

Therefore, The Dynamo Project aims to keep things simple; we want to give you a purpose to get out of bed and to make that day as productive as possible. Over time, your purpose in life may change in terms of personal ambitions, work/home life etc but never forget, getting to bed that night clean and sober should be your main priority and with that attitude you will find the purpose in life you’re looking for.
